Martha Betson awarded research grant to investigate spread of intestinal worms in the Philippines

Martha Betson, together with colleagues at the University of Surrey and University of Philippines, has been awarded a research grant by the Medical Research Council and Philippines Council for Health Research and Development to investigate the role which animals and the environment play in spread of intestinal worms to humans. Intestinal worm infections are extremely common and widespread in the Philippines. This three year interdisciplinary project will involve field and lab work in the Philippines and lab work and mathematical modelling in the UK. There will be exchange of students and research expertise between the UK and Philippines. It is anticipated that the research outputs will lead to improvements in control of intestinal worms in the Philippines and elsewhere in the world.
